Brutal clashes between Somali government troops, backed by African Union, and al-Shabab fighters in Mogadishu, leaving at least 35 people killed.
Twenty Somali soldiers lost their lives in a furious gun battle between al-Shabab fighters and the government troops in the Hodan district of southern Mogadishu late Friday.
The clashes continued until the crack of dawn, the Press TV reported Saturday. Fifteen civilians were also killed as the two sides exchanged heavy gunfire and barrages of mortar shells were fired.
More than 25 people also received injuries during the bloody scuffle. The injured were rushed to different hospitals in Mogadishu.
