(Mogadishu-Somalia-September 6, 2010) Somali President, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, held talks today in Mogadishu with Ambassador Augustine Mahiga, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, as he returned to Villa Somalia for his second visit in 7 days.
The President was delighted to host the talks ahead of key UN meetings later this month and thanked Mahiga for the demonstrable commitment of UNPOS and the UN.
The two men held wide ranging talks concerning security, political and humanitarian aid issues and the President was able to provide up to date guidance and briefing on key subjects.
Ambassador Mahiga emphsised the importance of the partnership between the TFG and the UN and insisted that he and his team would make regular visits to Mogadishu to continue the development of dialogue and information exchange.
President Sharif said: "I am delighted that Ambassador Mahiga returned to Mogadishu so soon after his visit last week with the Under Secretary General, Lynn Pascoe. "Action speaks louder than words and our meeting today in Villa Somalia underlines the commitment of the UN to help both the TFG and the people of Somalia to restore peace, stability and prosperity to our country.
"Our meeting was highly constructive and we can be very sure that key meetings to discuss Somalia to be held later this month is Spain and New York will have the most up to date information to guide them.
"I look forward very much to developing our partnership over the coming months."
