Islamists in Somalia tell men to grow beards, trim moustaches

Mogadishu - Somalia's Islamist insurgent group Hisbul Islam has ordered Mogadishu to grow their beards and trim their moustaches in keeping with religious laws, a top official said Monday.

Mo'alim Hashi Mohamed Farah, Hisbul Islam governor in Mogadishu made the disclosure to reporters in Mogadishu.

"Men in Mogadishu are ordered to grow their beards and trim their moustaches for the sake of our religion because as Muslims we should make alive the way our prophet Muhammad has ordered," he said.

"If anyone tries to violate the order we will punish them based on Islamic law," he warned.
