Three People Die of Thirst in Puntland

Bossaso, Somalia (HOL) - Reports from the Puntland region of Somalia say that three people died of thirst in the village of Halula near the town of Haafuun. Eyewitnesses in the village whom we contacted confirmed the news for HOL.
 
The three people who died are a mother and her two children. The area where the deaths occurred is witnessing severer drought which has led to shortage of water. The Deputy Mayor of the town of Hafun Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi has told the media that the drought that is affecting the region and the lack of water are worsening. 
 
The Deputy Mayor has sent an appeal for assistance to the Puntland administration and humanitarian agencies to come to the aid of the residents of area by providing them with water and food so that similar deaths can be prevented.
 
Recently, the Governor of Bari region, which part of Puntland administration, Mr. Muse Gele Farole held a press conference in the city of Bosaso in which he said that during his trip to several areas in the region, he has seen a severe drought that is affecting the livelihood of the residents of region.
 
 The Governor added that he has seen people who are camping near wells that have run dry and that those people faced dire situations. The Governor appealed to aid agencies and local charities to aid the people affected by the drought before they die of thirst and hunger.
