UIC Seizes Weapons and Vehicles, Spokesman

Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Spokesman for Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) Mr. Abdirahim Ise Adow said that they seized weapons and vehicles yesterday afternoon. He said that weapons and vehicles were destined for Ethiopian to be used in the transportation of Somali troops trained in Ethiopia.

“We have sources to inform us (about the movement of Ethiopian and TFG troops) and we succeeded in the operation to seize the weapons and vehicles”, said Mr. Adow who added that they also inflicted damages on the troops that were operating the vehicles.

A fighting between TFG of Somalia and UIC took place yesterday afternoon near Balidogle airport in the lower Shabelle region. It is reported that the areas that witnessed the fighting yesterday are calm today.

So far there is no information from the TFG confirming or denying the claims made by UIC regarding the seizure of weapons and vehicle belonging to the TFG of Somalia.

Travel on the main road that link Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, and the city of Baidoa where the parliament currently conducts its businesses has been dangerous in recent days as there are frequent clashes between Ethiopian and TFG troops on one side and UIC forces on the other side.
