The Somali nation recognised by the world is different from Somaliland, the Somali nation was built by Somalis people including people from Somaliland. I know it hard to grasp, but if we allowed every clan that is dissatisfied to declare separation, Somalia will have a dozen or more countries. In 1991, Somaliland was built by a single clan that was dissatisfied with the power sharing arrangement in Somali Republic and grievances against the brutal military dictator who committed war crimes against them. They base their claim of statehood on colonials separation and grievances of the war crimes by the brutal military dictatorship against them. But Zoomalis having nothing still act up with hatred against SL siding with westerners who wish for nothing except death and deseases for black and muslim populations. The only future I see the result of not recognisong SL and watching SL civilians struggle alone in isolation will be anger, poverty and hatred which would only lead to a violent confrontation with ppl in the region. They lost it in the 60s and regained in the 90s. If Somaliland is recognized it will separate them from their newly acquired land - the entire somalia. Also, it means part of somalia gets away from their total control and domination. with the possibility of genuinely looking for a solution for the rest of somalia. Both kenya and ethiopia know this very well. An independent somaliland will stand up for somalis and they just don't want that. Djibouti is too small and insignificant as a threat. When my father who was then in Hargeisa during somaliland's independence suggested to keep their country, he was almost killed! He asked them if they had any clue of the kind of people they were uniting with? interestingly enough, he met the same people he warned as refugees.
