My guess is that Al shabaab get support from Ethiopia and Somaliland.
Now Ethiopia start using Al shabaab Against Kenya because they know Somalia is weak and posses to threat to them.
Ethiopia wants also Kenya to be a weak so she can be the king of the region (IGAD).

They are lairs off course they collect some money from local farmers but we all know they can't collect such number. They lay and they will lay in the future

Al Shabaab does not, even remotely, represent an authority in ANY relgion. To pay a ZAKAT to those people and/or to their affiliates is a grouse misjudgement of the Islam and what it stands for!

some of these money is from selling Animals they collected from the people which they sell to business people who then export it from the Ports controlled by FGS, Puntland and/or Somaliland. If FGS and the State governments had a good intelligence services, they would have followed the money and shutdown these secret channels. Squeezing Shabab finanancially is as equally important than fighting them with guns. Large numbers of the youth who fight for them is not because they believe the cause but it is because they get paid $$$. If the money stops, they would lose most of the guys who fight for them in a matter of weeks! Only few hardcore group would be left out.

Extortion is not zakat, it is forcing people to pay or else face death. Most of the money al-shabaab gets is from those KDF apes selling charcoal.
