The sentiment of fighting extremism is laudable but I am not so sure about blaming 'tribalism' for the demise of the Somali. Firstly we are not really tribes but clans. Secondly the Somali without the social fabric of the clan is no Somali at all. It is what makes us who we are for good or evil(mostly the latter of course). Clannism can be used for good aldmitedly to cure its own poison: Puntalnd is there because it was set up to protect the Darod caln from the attacks of Hawiye. Somaliland is there because the usually ever-bickering Isaq subclans united to fight siyad Barre's Darodist and eventually genocidal regime. And then when they won they sat down with their enemy clans and bashed out a deal. Clan-flavoured. so not so sure about clan.

KKKKKKK. All the delegates hail from Darood? If so, which one of the following reasons is the reason why that is so: (1) they were all selected because they are in power, or (2) is it because the best traditional Somali Ulemas have been and still are of the Asharaaf Darood Ismail?
