The most important thing is the direction and agenda of the government.

It doesn't matter that president Farmajo can't implement his agenda himself as long as he picks a PM who is as capable, honest and patriotic as he is.

All the more reason to appoint a PM who shares his vision and he can trust.

Although the president isn't the head of government, he is the one who decides its direction and the government's agenda.

"Although the President has powers to appoint the PM, he does not control how the officer holder and his Ministers and deputy ministers  run the government."

I am guessing you've not been following Somali politics in recent years, have you?

That's in theory but in practice many thing are possible as we have seen.

If the president chooses a good PM who in turn chooses good ministers, there will be no need to interfere.

If he doesn't, the PM and his ministers will face constant no confidence motions from MPs sponsored by the president.

President Farmaajo knows that his success depends on making good decisions, starting with the appointment of a capable, honest and patriotic PM.

The previous president's decisions were all based on political calculations, which will not be the case with president Farmaajo.

President Farmaajo doesn't need to take any political calculations on his appointments because he has the support of the public and he's agenda is also very different from the previous president.

It's safe to say that Hassan Sheikh's presidency was compromised.

If the president is acting in the interest of the nation, his appointments will do a good job.

But if he isn't, he will be a compromised president and his government will fail to achieve any meaningful progress.

The problem is the system. Bad people come and go but the system remains.

A bad system will allow bad people to prosper.

A good system may not completely stop bad people doing bad things bad but it will restrict them and catch most of them.

Somalia's system of governance is broken and we need president Farmaajo to fix it.

As stated in article, the structure of the federal government is very problematic and doesn't help good governance.

It's unacceptable that an elected president is not the head of the executive but an appointed PM is.

Also, it says in the provisional constitution that the federal parliament must elect the president.

That will not be acceptable when there is OPOV.

Actually, I think that separating the head of state and head of government is a good idea but this current system is absolutely useless.

I would like a PM elected by the people as the head of the executive and a president selected by parliament as the head of state only.

The MPs could've saved us a lot of time and energy if the just selected a PM and he got on with his just job.

 Ally Jamah,

You have no clue of what you are talking about. If you think an appointed by the president PM is more powerful than the president who appointed him, then I refer you to all the PMs fired (including the current president when he was the PM) because they challenged the president! Until such time when there is a one man one vote elections in Somalia, the executive power rests with the president!
