Loyan

On August 8, 2005, Loyan Ahmed Gilao and his friend Ali Mohamed were victims of a senseless shooting in Toronto at Phoenix theatre (downtown Toronto) on their way to their car.  Loyan A. Gilao was 23 years old third year York university student.

Inna Lilaahi Waa innaah Illaahi Rajucuun” Loyan was laid to rest on August 10, 2005.  In Loyans’ memory, a community gathering was called to appeal for an end to gun violence that has plagued our beautiful city this summer and also to announce the formation of Loyan Foundation.

The event was held in Toronto on Saturday October 1, 2005 at Holiday Inn 600 Dixon Road from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm.   The Mayor City of Toronto Hon. David Miller, Police Chief city of Toronto, law enforcement, provincial and Federal Members of Parliament, M.P, Hon. Judy Sgro former Minister of Immigration Canada, MP Jean Augustine Deputy Speaker, Parliament of Canada, MP Hon. Borys Wrzesnewskyj, several Members Provincial Parliament of Ontario, Municipal Leaders, Religious leaders, community leaders and business leaders were in attendance.  The attendance was overwhelming and successful; we thank all those of who came out to support the announcement of LOYAN FOUNDATION.

The Loyan Foundation is non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to reducing the incidence and effect of violence by promoting development of healthy children, youth and families and to provide scholarships that encourage personal growth through community involvement. AEB.
