An aviation history was made in Virginia, USA by a young Somali girl called Abshiro Dirie who became the youngest Somali who flew an Cessna airplane with little help from her instructor Laura. Abshiro is now taking her training lessons at Dulles Aviation in Mannaasas, Virginia.
When you look at Abshiro Dirie from a distance you will see typical shy, timid young Somali girl, but when you get to know her you will find a different personality which is, caring and charismatic and strong girl. She was only six years old when she asked her dad to teach how drive a car.
Born in Logan, Utah in 1993, Abshiro and her family moved to Virginia, where she grew up and start her interest in aviation after visiting
National Air and Space Museum , Washington , DC.
In her fourth grade Abshiro become the first Somali student to be elected in the student body at William Ramsey Elementary in Alexandria, Virginia. Abshiro Dirie also involves in extra curriculum activities in her school, she is a member of Chess and Music Clubs, she plays violin with school band. Last year Abshiro was awarded Monthly Student Trust Worthiness award of her school.
She plans to become the first Somali female to go to the space. Abshiro is planing to go to a Space Camp in Alabama this summer for two weeks. Abshiro Dirie is was outstanding and an honor student in her last three years, mainly in math and science.
